How much is a consultation with Dr Carmen?
- A Cosmetic Consultation is $300 (inc GST)
Do I need a medical referral to see Dr Carmen?
A medical referral is now required to have a consult with a plastic surgeon. It is also vital if you wish to claim part of your consultation on Medicare.
You will also need a valid medical referral if your surgery is eligible for a Medicare Rebate and you wish to claim part of your surgery on Medicare or your Private Health Fund.
How do I book Surgery with Dr Carmen?
- After your consultation and ‘cooling off period’ (for cosmetic surgery) – you will be able to book your surgery
- Surgery theatre dates must be secured with a deposit payment of 10% of the surgical fee
How Can I Pay for Surgery with Dr Carmen?
- Full payment for surgery will be required at least 3 weeks before your surgery theatre date.
- Payment methods include bank transfer or cash – you can also pay with VISA Credit Card but there will be an additional 1.3% surcharge

What are the recent changes in Cosmetic Surgery Regulations?
The Medical Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) introduced regulations for Cosmetic Surgery patients effective 1st of July 2023.
Key Points of the Cosmetic Surgery Regulations
- A GP Referral will be mandatory for ALL patients having a consultation for surgery
- A least TWO consultations are required for cosmetic surgery
- Cosmetic Surgery Patients will need a patient Pre-screening Assessment Test (PAT) for BDD
- A cooling-off period of at least seven days after signing a consent form before booking surgery and paying a deposit etc.
- Patients will have a more detailed Informed Consent before surgery
- There will be Higher Standards in training & experience – CPD requirements for Doctors
- Accredited facilities will be required for surgery
- Tougher Advertising Standards for Cosmetic Surgery
- Cosmetic Surgery refers to surgical procedures without a Medicare Item Number
