Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Prices and Payment Options, with Dr Carmen Munteanu

Understanding the overall price, individual costs and payment options for plastic and cosmetic surgery is an important step in your surgical journey. At Aesthetik Profile, we believe in providing clear, transparent information so you can make informed choices about your procedure.

Below we explain the typical components of your surgical quote, payment timeline and important information about the payment process and your options.

How Much Does Plastic Surgery Cost in Melbourne, Australia?

The cost of plastic surgery can vary depending on a range of factors, including the complexity of the procedure, the surgeon’s fees, the hospital fees, anaesthetist fees, whether an assistant is required and many other factors.

Pricing for plastic surgery is also influenced by whether you are eligible for a Medicare item number (for medically necessary surgery) and whether you have private health insurance or will be paying for your procedure without insurance (self-funded surgery).

As each person’s anatomy and surgical needs are unique, it is not possible to provide a fixed cost for surgery without a detailed consultation.

Your quote for surgery will outline all applicable costs, including:

A consultation with Dr Carmen is the first step towards understanding your options. During your appointment, you will receive detailed information tailored to your needs, including a personalised quote for your surgery. This quote will include a cost breakdown of the following;

  • Hospital fees (based on operating theatre time and the length of your stay)
  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Anaesthetist’s fee
  • Assistant’s fee (if applicable)
  • Implant fees (if applicable)
  • Medicare rebates (if any)

How much is a Consultation with Dr Carmen?

  • A Cosmetic Consultation is $300 (inc GST).

Will Medicare and Private Health Insurance pay for my surgery?

It’s important to note that purely cosmetic procedures, performed for aesthetic reasons only will not be eligible for Medicare rebates or private health fund cover.

Medicare and private health insurance may contribute to the cost of surgery in certain cases where the procedure meets specific eligibility criteria. These criteria usually relate to medical necessity, such as treating chronic pain, functional impairment, or a medically diagnosed condition.

If an item number applies, you may be able to claim a rebate from Medicare and if you have private health insurance, your insurer may cover some hospital and theatre fees. This will not cover all the costs, and you need to pay the remaining costs.

We recommend discussing your specific situation with Dr Carmen during your consultation, as well as checking with your private health fund for details about your cover, any waiting periods, and out-of-pocket costs.

How to book your Surgery with Dr Carmen

Once you have had a consultation with Dr Carmen, you may proceed to book your surgery if it is considered medically necessary and eligible for a Medicare item number.

For cosmetic procedures (without a Medicare item number), a mandatory 7-day cooling-off period applies after your second consultation. This allows you adequate time to consider your decision, without feeling pressured.

A deposit of 10% of the surgical fee is required to secure your surgery date. If you have any questions or would like further information, our team is here to assist you.

How to pay for your Surgery with Dr Carmen

Full payment for your surgery is required at least three weeks prior to your scheduled surgery date. Accepted payment methods include:

  • Bank transfer
  • Cash
  • Visa credit card (please note: a 1.3% surcharge applies for credit card payments)

We understand that surgery can be a significant financial commitment. To help manage this, Dr Carmen offers the option to pay for your procedure through installment payments, as long as the full balance is paid at least three weeks prior to your scheduled surgery date.

If you have any questions or need assistance with payment options, please don’t hesitate to contact our team.

Will your Super Fund pay for your surgery?

In some cases, it may be possible to access your superannuation to help pay for certain surgical procedures. This is typically considered on compassionate grounds (for procedures that address chronic pain or functional concerns) rather than purely cosmetic reasons.

Early access to superannuation is governed by strict criteria set by the Australian Taxation Office. If you believe you may be eligible, you can apply directly through the ATO’s Early Release of Superannuation program. Please note, the final decision is made by your superannuation fund, and not all funds allow access for this purpose.

Disclaimer: We do not recommend or endorse the use of superannuation funds to pay for surgery. This information is provided for transparency and to assist with general understanding. We urge you to seek independent advice from a qualified financial advisor or your superannuation fund before making any decisions.
