Dr Carmen Munteanu is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the highest qualification available to Specialist Plastic Surgeons in Australia.
With more than 25 years of experience in plastic surgery and over 35 years working in health and community care, Dr Carmen has dedicated her career to helping patients achieve life-changing outcomes through reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
As one of the relatively small number of female Specialist Plastic Surgeons practising in Australia, Dr Carmen offers patients a unique combination of extensive surgical expertise, international experience and a perspective that many patients find reassuring.
In addition to her Fellowship, Dr Carmen is an active member of several leading professional organisations, including the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) and the Australian & New Zealand Board of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery (ANZBCPS).

Dr Carmen graduated with honours from medical school before undertaking specialist training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at one of Europe’s largest trauma centres.
She became a board-certified Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon in 1999 and was recognised as one of the youngest consultants in her field. Following her move to Australia, she completed further specialist training and supervised practice before being awarded her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Today, Dr Carmen combines decades of international experience with a personalised approach to patient care, helping patients from across Melbourne and beyond achieve their goals with confidence.
A Commitment to Research and Innovation
Dr Carmen’s passion for plastic surgery extends well beyond the operating theatre.
Throughout her career, she has co-authored more than 50 scientific publications covering topics including reconstructive microsurgery, hand surgery, lymphoedema treatment, replantation surgery and aesthetic procedures. She has also undertaken PhD research in malignant melanoma, reflecting her commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient outcomes.
She continues to attend national and international conferences and educational programs to ensure her patients benefit from current techniques, innovations and evidence-based care.
